An envelope. Delivered today by my oldest daughter. A plain white envelope. But this one was different. Very different, lumpy. Upon opening said lumpy envelope I found a rock. A polished rock with one word. Health. That is all it said, Health. The accompanying note was lovely. Written by a teacher, a woman, a cancer survivor. The rock, given to her, was now passed to me. My new treasure, my rock. It will eventually continue its journey. I too will pass it on. Thank you Anne.
I can see the finish line. My best friend texted “you’re almost there, you can do anything for a week”. True. A week of skiing in the Rockies or sailing in The Bahamas sounds rather nice. Apparently, not options right now. One week. Then, time to heal. Time to slide back into life. Back to Friday lunch dates with my amazing wife. Back to Wednesday lunch dates at school with daughter number two and Saturday morning coffee dates with daughter number one. Back to triathlon training and back to the job and people I love at FOX. But first, one more week. One more brutal week. The pain is almost too much at times but it will pass. Then the health. Yes, health. If you smell what the Rock is cooking!
An idea. Send a rock to someone who is hurting. Maybe send a note or a doodle. Heck send an old bagel. Send something that says “you’ve got this”. C’mon, do it. Do it….I dare ya.

Mr. Ian, I too am a teacher. I have a rock on my desk at school It says “BELIEVE”. Tomorrow I will pass it on….and I do BELIEVE you will heal, you will BELIEVE that this journey will continue to give strength to others. Continue to BELIEVE Mr. Ian, you are so close to getting through your chemo.

I was given a rock that says courage on it when I was diagnosed. I carried with me to all of my chemo and radiation appointments. My skin was burned after radiation, but once I was done it healed quite quickly. I hope the same for you. You are almost there!! Take care!

I’ve been following along your daily journey, praying for a good recovery while at the same time praying for my sister-in-law who keeps getting hospitalized due to the chemo she’s had to undergo. Thanks for the rock suggestion. I will be sending her one tomorrow. Keep up the good fight. You’re an inspiration to all! Looking forward to seeing your weather reports again!

“May God be Beside you to Befriend you, Behind you to Encourage you, In Front of you to Guide you and Within you to give you Peace”. (Guideposts, Nov 2016). This resonated with me when I read it. I hope it helps you. Keep the faith. God’s got this. Now to box up several stale bagels – I hope my sisters appreciate them. Thanks for the humor – you are best! I saw the plunge ads today – makes me miss seeing you on the news at 9 even more. You make bad weather better (say that 5 times fast)

Thank you so much for sharing your story. I have been sick with some stomach business almost 8 months. Today was an especially hard day. I feel like I will never feel better. Your posts help me to carry on. You make me not feel so alone on this health journey.
